Parent Evenings
Our annual parent evenings will be held August 22 for grade 4-6 and August 23 for grades 7-9. More information and times will be shared with you via SchoolSoft and mentor phone calls soon.

The build
As existing students and parents know we are doing a build of the school over summer that will extend into Autumn term. The first stage of the build is scheduled to be done by August 11. During stage 1 we are moving some walls, doors, building a second student room and a new reception desk. The build has however been slightly delayed which means that some doors and new glass walls are only being delivered in week 33-34 which means that we have put up temporary doors and walls where the new doors and glass walls are going to go. We will be able to fully use all classrooms and other spaces in the A building while we wait for the new doors and walls to be delivered and installed.
The second stage of the build are the two new floors that are being built.

By November 1st we will have a brand-new grade 5 classroom and a Music room / assembly room. During this time, there will be construction happening at the two wings of the school. Regarding safety: the construction site has been closed off for students and staff and we have staff on duty to ensure that students are not playing in areas that are closed off. I am looking forward to show the ‘new’ school to everyone in November. And perhaps, most importantly, the P building will go away giving us more outdoor space.

School Food
After careful consideration, I have decided to change catering company. I have always been extremely happy with the kitchen staff that we have and therefore they will stay with us, but the food supplier has changed. Chartwells is the name of the new company and they are serving food at a number of IES schools in Stockholm and around the country today. You can read more about them here: http://www.compass-group.se/Varum...

We will be serving breakfast and lunch (free of charge of course) to all students. Staff enjoy free pedagogical lunch and breakfast.

We will start serving breakfast on Friday August 18 from 7.30 every day.

School Calendar:
The school calendar for students can be found here and in the Files and Links section on SchoolSoft. The calendar is a living document and I do not recommend that you print it off as there is still more information to be put in the calendar.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Welcome to the academic year of 2017/2018 at Internationella Engelska Skolan i Hässelby Strand

Spring Fair 2017

Hello,

A big thank you to the PTA, the students and the staff that were involved in creating a great Spring Fair at the school last Saturday. It was a wonderful day where staff, parents and students came together to celebrate Spring, look at the fantastic student work that was displayed in the gym, do some fundraising and to have a lot of fun of course.

Regards,

Mr Granström

School Inspection visit

I am happy to give you some good news from our latest inspection by Skolinspektionen (The Swedish School Inspectorate). In March IES Hässelby had our scheduled inspection – the inspectorate visits all schools in Sweden on a regular basis.

The decision is now available. The decision reads that there were no faults or areas that need development in your school.

We know that IES Hässelby Strand is an outstanding school with fantastic results year after year, a school where students come to learn and teachers come to teach in a calm and supportive learning environment.

A big thank you to all our staff, students, parents and guardians who make our school great.

You can read the report here: https://www.skolinspektionen.se/sv/Beslut-och-rapporter/

Best regards,

Mr Granström

Workshop Day for Students Joining August 2017

Greetings,

Yesterday, I had the privilige to welcome to school some of our new students that will join IES Hässelby Strand in August 2017. The Workshop Day is an opportunity for students to experience a day as a student in our school. It is also an important day for new IESH parents where they get to meet teachers, the management team and the Principal.

The students had three lessons, in Maths, Swedish and English. During these lessons, parents listened to me speak about IES Hässelby Strand, and what we believe in as a school organisation. The school's Academic Manager, Mr Patterson spoke about the academics at the school, how we work to ensure that all students fulfill their potential. Ms Naurin, the Junior School Coordinator, spoke about pastoral care, our expectations on students and how we make sure students develop socially and feel safe in our school. She also spoke about how we support students with English in grade 4.

Thank you so much to everyone who came!

We ask guardians of students who could not attend the Workshop Day yesterday to contact Ms Vani Handa as soon as possible to secure placement for your child in August. Her email address is vani.handa.hasselby@engelska.se.

Best Regards,

Mr Granström
